About

Dzanc Books was founded in 2006 to advance great writing and champion those writers who don't fit neatly into the marketing niches of for-profit presses. As a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, Dzanc Books not only publishes excellent books of literary fiction, but works in partnership with literary journals to advance their readership at every level. Dzanc is also fully committed to developing educational programs in the schools and has begun organizing many such workshops and Writers In Residency programs. The authors already signed by Dzanc are extraordinary, award winning talents, including Roy Kesey, Yannick Murphy, Peter Markus, Laura van den Berg, Dawn Raffel, and Jeff Parker. All Dzanc authors not only receive contracts and monetary compensation commensurate with the best literary houses, but the personal attention shown to each author by Dzanc - including reviews, book tours and intimate involvement in every step of the publishing process - clearly makes Dzanc unique.

The Monkeybicycle Lightning Round!

When Monkeybicycle began in Seattle almost eight years ago, one of the first things we did was create a monthly reading series. It did well. And after several months we started to see no more empty seats, authors getting in touch with us from as far away as Vancouver and LA, asking if they could participate. It was a great time.

But then, Monkeybicycle's editors started to spread out a bit and the series dissolved. But now that all of us are in the same city again, we're starting it back up, this time with the speed and hustle that the east coast demands.

The Monkeybicycle Lightning Round! is a quarterly reading series that fuses quick, high energy readings with a broad range of voices--both established and emerging--into a seamless hour of literary brilliance. Each event will feature 20 readers, who will read no longer than three minutes each before introducing the next reader. No interruption from the host means a continuous listening experience. No guidelines other than length means maximum variety of form and content.

We're incredibly excited to host some events again after such a long hiatus, so if you can join us for our first one, you surely won't be disappointed. The details are listed below.  AND, if you'd like to participate--either this time or in the future--please contact us at info@monkeybicycle.net and we'll set it up. If you're in the area, we hope to see you there!
