October 18, 2013, Ann Arbor, MI—Dzanc Books is pleased to announce that Jen Grow is the winner of our 2012 short story collection contest. Grow’s manuscript, My Life as a Mermaid and Other Stories, was selected from more than 300 submissions.  This collection will be published in the Fall 2015.

Steven Gillis, Publisher and Co-Founder at Dzanc Books, notes: “There is something both magical and mystical in Jen's writing.  She moves easily between tales involving trips to foreign lands, trips to the grocery store and inside abandoned trucks; each one producing its own unique world of wonder and awe.  Her eye is keen and deliberate, insightful when painting the lives of children, lovers and lost siblings. My Life as A Mermaid is a beautifully rendered collection and we at Dzanc are extremely proud and excited to publish.”

“I'm thrilled and excited that my collection, My Life as a Mermaid and Other Stories, has been chosen for this year's prize,” Grow reacted. “I also consider it a great honor to be in the company of all the other writers that Dzanc has published. I have a lot of respect for Dzanc Books, which is doing great and important work to champion literature and writing.”
