The Dzanc Books internship program provides the opportunity for literature enthusiasts, under- and graduate students, and others to get hands-on experience working with a premier independent press. Interns will learn from publishing from Dzanc staff, authors, and knowledgeable guests while helping advance the press's mission.

All internships are long-distance and unpaid.
Dzanc Books is a unique nonprofit press with a large list of remarkable authors and dozens of charitable programs involving literacy and writing and provides a great opportunity to experience publishing firsthand. Interns will gain invaluable insight into the running of an independent, nonprofit literary press and the publishing business in total.
Internships

Editorial interns will work closely with each other and members of Dzanc's editorial staff. While assisting on a wide range of projects, interns will gain hands-on experience and training in most aspects of editorial work, while also gaining a good understanding of nonprofit literary publishing.
Interns' responsibilities will include:
A commitment to work ten to fifteen hours per week.
Reading, evaluating, and reporting on fiction and nonfiction submissions.
Copy editing forthcoming Dzanc projects and proofreading e-books.
Seeking out promising new authors by reading print and online journals, blogs, etc.
Working on special projects as needed.
Marketing/Publicity interns Interns will take on a wide variety of publicity and marking-related tasks, including but not limited to:
Creating pitch lists for forthcoming titles
Drafting pitch emails
Pitching features, reviews, and interviews to media and sales markets
Writing and proofreading press releases
Managing book awards submissions
Researching new review publications and other promotional opportunities
Posting to Dzanc’s social media and blog
Data entry and database upkeep
Website upkeep

Qualified candidates will have:
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
The ability to work independently.
Computer literacy.
Undergraduate experience in English or a related field.
Knowledge about and passion for the contemporary publishing industry (preferred).
Knowledge of contemporary literature, including Dzanc titles (preferred).
