Announcing Dzanc Books’ New Imprint, Berlin-based PalmArtPress

Dzanc Books is pleased to announce a new imprint in PalmArtPress, an independent press in Berlin.

PalmArtPress, founded in 2008 by publisher Catharine J. Nicely, delivers books with an experimental combination of literature and art, with select titles published in both German and English. Formerly distributed in the US by Small Press Distribution, PalmArtPress has agreed to become an imprint of Dzanc Books, an independent press with similar values and publishing emphasis, and distribute its English-language releases to the US market.

“Like Dzanc, PalmArtPress blends literature, art, and culture to create a vibrant tapestry of voices,” said publisher Catharine Nicely. “Our commitment to cultural diversity and international exchange empowers authors and artists to transcend borders, fostering a deeper understanding of our world through an interdisciplinary mosaic of creativity.”

The first title planned for distribution under the collaboration is Mitya New’s Beyond Mount Kailash.

“It’s no small thing for an independent press to survive. We need unconventional presses and challenging, rule-breaking books, now more than ever. It’s a pleasure to be partnering with such a dedicated team and helping PalmArtPress’s books find new readers,” said Michelle Dotter, editor-in-chief of Dzanc Books. “SPD’s sudden dissolution left a lot of presses scrambling; we’re glad to be able to offer support and a new path forward, even for just this one.”

Dzanc Books is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization not only committed to producing quality literary works but providing creative writing instruction in public schools through the Dzanc Writers-in-Residence program and offering low-cost workshops for both young writers and aspiring authors. Dzanc Books also runs annual prizes for the novel and nonfiction. For more information on the house, upcoming titles, and other prize winners, please visit www.dzancbooks.org.
