the adroit journal interviews sarah yahm about “unfinished acts of wild creation”
Ann Marie Vanderveen at The Adriot Journal met with Sarah Yahm to discuss her recently released novel, Unfinished Acts of Wild Creation. Vanderveen asked Yahm to dive deeper into the themes of her book; they covered complex mother/daughter relationships, chronic illness, postpartum depression, grief, and agency. The resulting conversation between the two of them is an honest and deeply felt examination of the book, and of each of their personal experiences with the book’s themes.
Vanderveen wrote, “As we spoke, I found myself drawing parallels in our seemingly illogical and thoroughly imperfect reactions to death. Her responses to my questions, much like her book, led me to reflect on societal conditioning, generational reverberations, and the freedom we gain when we forgo our predetermined roles.”
